Challenges in your discipline

Hi!
Each day, are more people who are suffering an injury, and one of the steps of rehabilitation is the physical therapy with us, the physicals therapists.
So, every day we have to renovate our technics to help people, like US (ultrasound), tens, criotherapy, short wave, etc.
But I'm just at first year, so I can't tell you specifically any technology but the idea is there.

About the social matters, statistics say that Physical Therapy is in second place in the preferences of the new students of the universities in the health's area.
And maybe when we graduate, we will be in the second place too in the ranking of salaries, but only working people, because a Physical Therapist earn if he works.

Also, many people don't believe in us because we do a slow job, with a long rehabilitation, so the change isn't too fast and people get bored. So we have to educate people to understand all that.

But I have a critic for my career. We only cure the patient, but we don't enter in his life, we don't care about his job, we don't care about his family and this is very important to help somebody, because a finger's fracture is not the same for a student who doesn't do any sport or a basketball player, and we have to know that. And many times we don't care about that. We have to cure a integral person, not a machine.

About the education, in Chile there aren't postgrades, so we have to study out of the country. Here, there are just courses and they are not enough.

Our mission in this society is not just rehabilitation, because we have to do the prevention of the diseases. But, how? Is easy, we have to educate people, explain people the risk of some customs like how they sit or walk. Maybe if the people learn, we won't have many job, but less people will have pain.

A sporting life

Hi everyone!
Today we have to write about a sporting life, my life jaja.
I've always done a lot of sport, because I like it and is healthy.
I can do any sport, but I practice basketball and the benefits are infinites for my mind, my body and of course for the society, because a person who do sport, is a person who doesn't consume drugs or alcohol. And sports reduces the population of overweight.
The promotion of the sports is the most difficult because people don't have time or don't have motivation for run, move or anything.
But if I have to encourage people to do sports, I'd do more funny activities, not just run or things like that.
I think that the genetic factor is important in the countries, for example, people from Jamaica runs more fast, people from Brazil plays better soccer, etc.
BUT! the sport policies are important too. Chile has stupid people in charge of sports, so we lost in the international competitions.
We are centralists. The good players or athletes are playing in all this country, not just in Santiago. In other cities, the goverment doesn't give money to develope the sport.
Creating more great athletes, is to create idols for the kids want to do more sport, which is good for the country and do more physical activity, lower obesity rates.

Holiday destination

Hi!
Well, I'm gonna write about my holidays.
Last year, I made good friends in Argentina (since when I went there to play basketball), so in the summer, my father gave me a gift (the reason was that I was going to study at Universidad de Chile), I WOULD GO TO ARGENTINA! Of course, to visit my friends and also share with my family.
That summer was the best. I met many places and a lot of people, went to parties, ate different kinds of food, etc.
This holidays I want to be in peace in my house in Puerto Montt, go out with my friends, go to parties, work to make some money and maybe I will go to another city here in Chile or in another country with my family.
The only sure thing is that I want to rest a lot, because this year have been so hard.
But, if you ask me to which place I want to go? I think that Brazil. To a beach with a lot of nice people, where I can dance, eat and drink things from other culture.
Or maybe go to another city in the tango's country, Argentina, because I love that country.
And if we have to choose a city from Chile. I choose La Serena or "Iquique Glorioso". But I want a place with beaches and maybe invite a friend because I don't want to go just with my parents, some times is a little boring.

My hobbies

Hi everyone again!
Well, in the first term, I told you about one of my hobbies: the basketball.
I play this sport since I was 5 years because my best friend invited to me to play. I started to play and I realize that I was very good so I keep in the team. And, of course, I had to "choose" one position. This depends of my skills. Like I move fast with my foot and with my head, I start to play like point guard (or "1"). This player, control the game, says the plays, supports the team, so I developed my personality in and out the court.
Also, this sports like other, helps to make friends and good relationships. I found very good people and with they, I grew up.
Following my history in this sport, I have to say that I won a lot of prizes, like best player in championship, in my city, in my school and most correct player. I played in many teams like Puerto Montt, Osorno, Castro, Maullin and I played in the Chilean's team in 2007. I travelled here, to Concepcion, Talcahuano, Calama, Iquique, Valparaiso, Viña del Mar, Punta Arenas, Chaiten, Coyahique, etc. So I can say to you that I visited all the places in my country playing basketball, even Argentina in 2007.
Of course, all my achievements are thanks to my parents, because they are always with me. If I had a game at 8 a.m. They woke up and went with me to all my games.

The last thing that I can say is, if you have the oportunity to do any sport, do it! Because they really help to developed your personality and make very good friends. They will be with you in good and bad moments. They will cry and laugh with you. And I won't forgot these moments.

The role of music

Music plays an important role in my life, so much more since I live here in Santiago.
Why? Because the journeys are longer than in Puerto Montt, so I spend more time on buses or on the subway. About this, I have a MP4 and with this, I listen to music everywhere I want.
When I'm in my apartment, I listen to a lot of music because I live alone, so listening to music, I don't get bored.
I listen to all kinds of music, from old music to reggaeton. I listen to rock, pop, salsa, etc. But my favourite singers or groups are Avril Lavigne, Los Pericos, Coldplay, Lily Allen, Porta, Los Tipitos, etc. But I don't follow anyone, just I listen to them.I download music from Internet (navegator) or Ares (software).
Some people say that downloading music from Internet is dangerous, and they are right, but I have powerful antivirus and I always check my computer for posibles viruses or web spies.
I remember that one or two times I bought a CD or tape (years ago) because buy music is expensive, and I know that people prefer download music from Internet.
When do I listen to music? All the time! When I study, to fall asleep, when I wake up, when I travel, when I'm sad or happy, when I go to parties, at all times. I think that I couldn't live without music.
I also play the guitar, so when I don't have to study, I play the guitar a lot for relax. And is useful because people always needs that someone play the guitar.

A country I would like to visit..

My favourite country es Argentina, but just because of the people.

I had to visit the country to play basquetball and other time for holidays and I love it!

The people is so diferent that here, they are more extrovert and more funny. They love sports and they are so good to do them, in the country there are handsome men and I like their partys.

Since I went to Argentina, I learned so much about them, their words, importants dates, famous people, etc.

And the most important reason that why I like Argentina is for all the pasion that they put in their sports activities.I want to dedicate to sport therapy and, maybe work in a sport team. In Chile, I have few oportunities to do this, but in Argentina teams need us and they pay much money.

I know that I'm going to work in a basquetball team.

I have friends in Santa Rosa, Realicó, Comodoro Rivadavia, Puerto Madryn y Esquel. They are very good people and if I don't achieving my dream, I know that they always receive me with open arms.

I like to visit Santa Rosa, Cordoba, Buenos Aires,

Transantiago

Transantiago? well, Honestly, I don't like it.I'm from Puerto Montt, a big city, but Santiago is more bigger.I came to Santiago two years ago to play basketball, when Transantiago started to work and all the people was crazy because anyone knew what bus take to go to their homes. But now, I use the system, and I hate it so much. Every bus is full. The people is sad or angry, the travels are so long and always we want to arrive early to our home. Personally, I live alone, so I have to cook me, clean my apartment, wash my clothes, so I waste time from my study. I can't give you a comparison because I remember few things about the old system, for example, the noise that the old buses did.

But Transantiago has good things, the buses don't stop in any place, the thieves can´t steal to the driver because he don't get money from us. But like all things in this world, the system has a "B side", a bad side. I like to change some things, like put more journeys, but don't put more buses, because the streets are full of them and the drivers don't have respect for others cars.

But, finally, I think that when pass the time, the Transantiago will be a good service, because in other countries this system works.

Do Schools Kill Creativity

Well, after watch the video of Sir Ken Robinson, I have to say that I'm totally agree with him. The schools kill creativity of all the boys and girls in the world, just because they (the schools) want to educate their interests and don't think about the abilities of the childs and youngs.
I have a lot of partners in the school who have many abilities for sing, paint, play an instrument, etc. But now, they are studying things that they didn't want to study.
It's so sad all this, but I think that we can't change this mistake for us, but we can be different with our sons and daughter.
The childrens can change this world to a better place.

My blogging experience

We have been a full term writing blogs, and after all, I have to consider if I liked the experience or not. Well, for starters, I like computers, so, the mix between English and computers has been a good item to my interest in the field. The blog has been a good way to think about my life in the present, my past and obviously, my future.
It also helped me increase my vocabulary in context, my English, to order my thoughts, and think very well what I'm going to say for not expose my personal life.
About the advantages and disadvantages, I think in terms of benefits, write blogs helps to improve language, improve the way that we write and learn more about our partners, because with all the stress of university, we don't have time to talk about what we live day by day, and this is a good time to do that. Now, about the disadvantages, we don't have developed the pronunciation, because we have to be very focused on what we write. Also, I think that we expose a lot of times our personal lives and can be dangerous.
But undoubtedly, the best thing about this course (lectures and blogs) has been the opportunity to meet other people, people in physical therapy and obstetrics.
Well, despite the fact that we do not talk much between us, we had to learn to live with another career, and realize the variety of tastes that exist. They have been very shy, but also very good people and has been a pleasure for me to know them

Anyway, I find very good idea to write blogs in the classroom, and should be repeated forever. I also think that there should be a note on the presentation of the blog

Thanks you.

My ideal job

I always wanted to study Physical Education, but my parents don’t left me. After few months, I realized that the Physical Therapy was my area and something say to me that I will be the best and happy in that.

Physical therapy has 3 areas: neurology, respiratory and traumatology. I want to work in traumatology, or heal people with problems to move. But mainly, I want to heal athletes who have disabilities to do their sport.
To do so, I need to take a course in “sports and physical therapy”, I need to be an active person, be very observant and want to continue learning.
I think I will be good for that job, because I am an athlete, and I understand the need for athletes heal faster and return to their activities, so it will work with enthusiasm.
Here in Chile, it is difficult to work in this area because we have few policies as a country, to support the sport, so it is not an urgent need, so there is no other option but to go to another country.

I think I will be good in my area, because I'm studying physical therapy for my vocation, not by the money that I’ll earn.
If I can not work in sports, I think I'll go to a poor country to help them.

My favourite subject

My favorite subject is anatomy. I have several teachers, Elías Fernández, Miguel Soto and Rodolfo Sanzana, which incidentally, is the most beautiful of all and I love going to class only to see it. I like the course because it is very difficult but also very useful for my career because I know every part of the human body for healing the injuries of people. This semester, I learned all about head, neck and upper extremities. The rest I will see on second term and Anatomy is a subject that is for all this year. What I liked most to learn, was upper extremities, because, as I dedicate myself to the sports, the greatest number of injuries by athletes who consult, it is on upper and lower extremities.

MY FUTURE

My dream has always been dedicating my life to the sports, but not doing it, because I am dedicated to my studies, but I want to help those who can do sports, and the best way to do is heal their injuries. I would devote myself to physical therapy in sports.

The problem here is that in Chile there is no area to work on that, because the sport is not developed. This is why I'll go to specialize to Argentina and then I will stay working there, in a sports team. In other words, over 5 years, I will continue my education, to learn more in my area.

And, of course, in Argentina there are very beautiful people, so I will be married and have children beautiful too.

I think that is my ideal future, but achievable, because with my effort, I am going to achieve.

The best of my area

Hi! Well, I never want to study Physical Therapy until this year, so I don´t know anyone in my area. But, I think that any person who work in sport therapy, is the best!
Mmm, but I still thinking about that, and I can mention a good professional in my area like Cristian Campos. He is a Physical Therapist from Puerto Montt and he always heals me from my injuries.

My career

Mmm, first of all, I didn’t want to study Physical Therapy. I wanted to study Physical Education, but my parents didn’t left me, so I decided to study Physical Therapy because is more close to Physical Education, and envolves body, health and sports. Professionals in my area, helps people to reinsert on normal activities, after they have injury, so I think that we aport to society a lot of things, because we do more happy people.
Mmm, the most part of my job, it’s that the people do slow moves first, and then do moves with more complex, so I don’t know what tools we will use in the future for do more easy our work.

My favourite class is Anatomy, because is the most useful. It’s so difficult but it’s really useful to my career and for know all the parts of my body.

I love my career! It’s beautiful!

viernes, 8 de mayo de 2009

I just love this photograph! It represents my original place, my nature, and also my people, because in that moment there were a lot of people in that beach, people with who I grew, people that I love.
The picture was taken by my best friend, Javiera, who is studying now in Puerto Montt, at San Sebastian University, and that day, we were celebrating a birthday of another friend, and I didn’t enjoy the party, because were missing only 5 days for the PSU and I was studying so much! So it was taken about the last days of November.
If you see the picture, you can see the lake and a volcano. Well, the lake it calls “Lago Llanquihue” and the volcano it calls “Volcán Osorno”. Togheter, they are the places most visited around Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, Llanquihue and Frutillar. They are so beautiful, quiet, with animals, people doing sports, etc.
I choose this picture because I miss all that, the sea, the lakes, clean air, friendly people, delicious food, my food, and especially, my family and friends, and in that moment, I had it all.

Sports and Physical Therapy

First I'm gonna give you the link of the web site

Well, actually I don't use this web site because sports is a advanced topic in my career.

I found the web site because when I was searching information about physical therapy I tought: "My career must be relationship with sports", and after days, I found this web site, I read it and after that day, I just love my career and well, I know that Physical Therapy had a lot of topics, but I will work with sport people and I think that anybody can change my idea.

About how often I visit this web site, I have to say that this year no soo much, but last year a lot of times on the week, and also I look other web sites about sports and health.

At the University, we also used other web site for searching information.

In this web site, people whit a lot of knowledge upload information about millions of topics.

But I don't like the web site, because is so hard find a exactly information. The web site is in English, and I know English but just for talk comun things, and in that web site, there are a lot of words and concepts that we don't know in Spanish!! So is so hard..

My technology

Hi again. Today I'm gonna tell you about my favourite piece of technology: the computer. Well, everyone know the computers, so I think that I don't have to explain about them.
My dad gave me my first computer in.. mm.. 1995 I think, but I only used it to play. The time past, and about 2005 I still have the same computer, so it was so old for the technology of that year, so my dad gave me other computer. Since that day, I started to learn a lot of things about the computers, like fix them, personalize them, download thing and hack other PC, in fact, I have decided to study Informatic Engineer but for "soccer things"... I'm here.. jaja. I like the computers because I so strange that we can control so many thing from only one machine and all the process that the machine do, it based on two numbers, 0 and 1. But also, I get bothered that people say that they love the computers, and they only write on facebook or chat on MSN. THAT'S NOT TO USE A COMPUTER! I like do other things, investigate, learn about the world, I mean, use the computer for productive things.

My history

I born here, in Providencia, at Santa Maria's clinic but when I'm 4 years, I went to Puerto Montt because my dad is from there (He is from Osorno but Puerto Montt and Osorno are closer) and he know about the diference between live in Santiago and live in any other city.
I have 1 brother, he is 14 years and he misses me so much! This is the first time
that we are so far for a long time..

I study at Inmaculada Concepcion School since 1995, and when I'm 5 years, I started to practice
basketball and I never have stopped. I have taken part in a lot of championships and I play in a lot of teems in diferents cities.

Hi everyone!

Hi!

I'm Tania Oyarzún, I'm 17 years old and I study Physical Therapy at the Universidad de Chile.

I like to do sports, anyone! And I like computers a lot.

I'm from Puerto Montt and for your information, I didn't live on trees! jaja. I say that because a lot of people ask me that because I'm from the south of Chile. The people from here (Santiago) don't know about the wonderfull things that we have in the south.

Well, in this semester, I'm sure that we are going to know each other and I hope that we will be good partners!
